Noel Stallard is Gympie born and bred. As a writer and performer of bush poetry he has a strong belief that if we want to know who we are and where we are going, then we need to know our history; hence the importance of Australian heritage poetry. After 35 years of teaching, Noel now takes bush poetry to schools in city and country areas, and is in demand for writing and performance workshops, festival and function performances. He has a long-standing love of the poetry of John O’Brien, and his performances in character as Father Hartigan are a highlight of the annual John O’Brien Festival in Narrandera.

Noel’s awards include Australian Performance Champion in 2003, Queensland Champion 2004 and three Golden Damper Awards from Tamworth, the prestigious Judith Hosier Award for Outstanding Contribution to Bush Poetry, and 2012 Book of the Year in the Australian Bush Laureate Awards.
